Advice on travel gear for babies and toddlers
I have received a lot of questions about advice on travel gear for babies and toddlers lately and decided to do a post on some of the travel gear, we bring on holidays. This post contains affiliate links.
Baby Bjoern travel bed
I wish, I had known about this travel bed from Baby Bjoern, then I would have brought it on our latest holiday to Portugal, because the bed is absolutely amazing.
The crib is light (5 kgs.), it can be set up in record time and in one easy movement and the mattress, cover and the bed fabric can be machine-washed. The Baby Bjoern Travel Crib Light is for newborns and up until your child is about three years old. The crib measures 115 cm x 78. This means the crib stands firmly and doesn’t wobble. The travel bed is perfect because it so similar to a regular cot and so light, that you can bring it on airplane travels.
You can buy the Baby Bjoern travel bed here: The price is 189 GBP at Amazon.co.uk
Deryan travel bed
I earlier blogged about the Deryan Travel Bed and it is still in my opinion one of the best travel beds out there. We brought the travel bed to Mexico some years ago travelling with our 8 months old son and we and he loved it! He didn’t only use it for his sleep, he played a lot in it to. It was his safe place, that he took with him to all the different hotels, apartments etc.
The travel bed is like a pop up tent and comes with an inflatable mattres and sleeping mat. Best of all the travel bed comes with a net to protect your baby from insects, so if your travelling to areas with malaria, this bed is perfect. It weighs only 2 kilos and it is very compact.
If you are backpacking and travelling light, I would certainly choose the Deryan Travel Bed instead of the Baby Bjoern because it is more compact and light. But if you got the space, I would replace the Deryan travel bed and bring the Baby Bjoern Travel Light Crib, because it is so similar to a regular cot, so your baby will very easily adjust to it and it is in my opinion more comfortable.

Trunkis were recently brought to my attention by Our Overseas Adventures and my toddler loves the Trunki boostapaks. It is a backpack and a child seat.
Our toddler carries all his toys around in the 8 litre capacity backpack. The backpack is hand luggage approved for flights. The backpack quickly converts into an ECE approved carseat, with a hard shell to protect the inside contents. The car seat is similar to all other car seats.
It is suitable for children between 15 and 36 kg (approx. 4–12 years)
Buy the Trunki Boostapak here: The price is 40 GBP at Amazon.co.uk.
The money is well-spent, because you can use the Trunki Boostapak for your family holidays for years to come and save the expense to bring a car seat or rent a car seat.
Trunki also offers Trunki ride-on suitcases, you can buy them at Amazon.

Phil & Teds Lobster Highchair
The Phil and Teds Lobster highchair is a great alternative to a regular highchair and perfect for travels.
The highchair has a tray which works really well. The chair is very stable, which is one of the most important features. It flat packs into its own compact carry bag, measuring just 35 x 34 x 8cm. It has a maximum load of 15kg and an age range from 6 months to 3 years. Only thing to be aware of is that you cannot use the chair on glass tables.
The price is 70 GBP at Amazon.co.uk
I have been asked a lot lately about baby water floats. I found this at Amazon.co.uk.
I know it isn’t pretty, but it will keep your baby protected from the sun and your baby will love the steering wheel.
We used a baby float with shade, when we travelled in Mexico and Mauritius. We have really appriciated the shade during midday, when the sun is powerful.

Instead of the baby float you can consider to buy an inflatable boat, those you can use as a little pool for the baby if you fill in water. Then place it under a parasol and your baby can have lots of fun in the water in the shade. Our daughter really enjoyed this opportunity on our holiday in Portugal. She furthermore enjoyed playing with all her Lego duplo animals in her tiny pool.
On our recent holidays we have brought Lego Duplo. It is the best toy we have ever brought on holidays. Lego varies from other toys in the way, that it inspires your kids to use their imagination more. Both our daughter aged 18 months and our son aged 4 played with it a lot. Our daughter played with all the animals, while our son played with the bricks and used his imagination to build different houses etc.Share on Facebook
