Review: Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel with kids
There are not a lot of destinations in the world that we return to, but the islands of Greece is one of them. They are gorgeous, the weather is great most of the year, the flight duration time is short from Denmark and if you book late, you can find a really great last minute deal. That was exactly what we did – booked late and found a great last minute deal in Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel, a 5 star hotel located just outside Rethymnon on the north coast. We paid 800 USD for 4 persons for a weeks stay in a double room with sea view and with half board.Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel is a large resort with one big main pool and several smaller pools. There are one main buffet restaurant and a cafeteria, a smal lunch restaurant and a beach bar. There are a lot of option, when it comes to accommodation. You can either stay in a double room with sea or garden view, in a bungalow with garden or sea view or in a family room.
We chose a standard double room with sea view. If I ever return, I would consider a bungalow with sea view. They were located on the beach with a private garden in front – they looked amazing.
The double room was crowded with 4 persons in it, but the weather was absolutely great, so we didn’t spent time in the room during the day at all. The sea view was wonderful and worth paying a little extra for. You can take a look at the view in the picture below. We enjoyed half board during our stay. We normally choose an apartment with the option to cook youself, but I have to say, that we were very positive about the quality of the food. The variation could be better, but it was never a problem finding something delicious. We brought along a 3 year old and a baby aged 14 months and they both enjoyed the food as well. They especially enjoyed the deserts 🙂
The hotel is really child friendly. There were a lot of kids during our stay, which was off season (april). The hotel offers a kids club with daily activities. We joined the kids club some days with our 3 year old, he enjoyed the opportunity to draw and play with other kids. We did not leave him there, so I don’t know how that works. But there were some of the other kids in the kids club without their parents around, and they seemed to enjoy the activities.
The hotel is located at Platanias Beach. The beach is really beautiful, and most days we had it to ourselves because it was rather windy. The beach was the only negative about our stay. We were surprised, that the beach was not so child friendly. You would expect from the pictures that it is a sandy beach, but when you enter the water, it is stones. Our boy experienced a scraped knee because of the windy conditions making the sea a bit rough combined with the stones on the bottom. But that was the only minor negative thing about our whole stay. Besides that the beach was great and we enjoyed the peace there. Every where in Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel you are able to find a peaceful corner. There are no loud music at the pool and no anoying animation team. The animation team does exist, but they are not announcing activities in speakers or trying to persuade you in to participate in their activities, which was nice for a change. There are lots of activities for those, who want to join them. We chose not to. We enjoyed each others company and our kids enjoyed to swim in the pool all day 🙂
When they weren’t swimming, they were playing at the small playground close to the main pool. All in all a great stay.
