I read an article recently about the 20 most beautiful beaches in the world by Condé Nast. You can read the article here: The article got me thinking about my favorite beaches in the world. So I went through my old pictures from travelling as a backpacker. It was a great trip down memory lane taking me back to the time, when me and my husband travelled the world together, before we got kids. Having travelled the world as a backpacker, you find those few spetacular beaches, that you always remember. These are my favorite beaches in the world. They are all spetacular beaches.
Isla Perro, San Blas Islands
The San Blas islands are a group of islands in the archipelago de San Blas, located in the Northwest of Panama facing the Caribbean Sea. There are 378 islands within the archipelago and they are scattered around in an area of about 100 square miles.
The islands are not yet discovered by the tourism industry and are fully in control of the native Kuna’s. The islands are therefore unspoiled and truly amazing.
The very best beach is found on Isla Perro. Isla Perro is beautiful because of the white sand beach, crystal clear water, palm trees and small bar with a volleyball field in front of it. You can even spend the night here in a tent or hammock.
White Beach, Boracay, Philippines
White Beach in Boracay is really white and with very fine grained sand. The water has that wonderful turquoise color and it is bright and clear.
The beach has an amazing vibe. Completely relaxed during the day and busy with restaurants and beachparties during the evening. I remember a cheap lobster dinner on the beach watching the sunset. It was romantic and magical.
Con Son Island, Vietnam
Con Son is a world away from Vietnam’s well-beaten tourist trail. It is desolate and you will be able to find an isolated paradise beach like this one.
Con Son was once a penal colony used to brutal and cruel effect first by French colonists and later during the Vietnam War. The main prison walls still dominate the town as a constant reminder, and the gaols and cemeteries have become pilgrimage sites to the thousands of Vietnamese who suffered and died on the island between 1862 and 1975.
Le Morne Beach, Mauritius
If you kitesurf – you one day wanne go to Le Morne Beach. It is kitesurfer-heaven! The beach is public, and it has the most beautiful sorrounding mountains and on a windy day, there are hundreds of kites. It is possible to stay in one of the quite expensive Riu hotels on the kite-beach, but you can also choose to stay in the small city of La Gaulette, 10 km. away from the beach.
Tulum Beach, Yucatan, Mexico
Picture perfect beach, white sand, turquoise colored water, backpacker environment and the option to kitesurf. What more can you wish for ?
